The error usually pops up when you boot your computer for the first time, and it can be annoying as hell. Sometimes, it simply refuses to go away. Here are some ways to fix ‘RVC is already running’ error once and for all.
1. Update OS and Apps
The error may manifest due to a corrupt file or recent app update. I would recommend you to update the Windows first. Though Windows does a good job of updating itself, you can always check for new updates manually. Press Windows key+I on your keyboard to open Settings and click on Update & Security. Under Windows Update, click on Check for updates to fetch the new updates, if any. Since this is an app or software related issue, you must also update all installed apps on your computer. If you are using Windows Store, it’s super easy. Just open it and click on Downloads and updates. You can view all the updates that are available here and click on Get updates to install all of them at once. I would recommend you to reboot once everything is updated to check if the ‘RVC is still running’ error is gone or not.
2. Lenovo EasyCamera
Do you see this error on a Lenovo computer? Several users have complained about seeing an RTFTrack.exe file error on their screen. If the error is genuine, it can be related to the Lenovo EasyCamera driver that supports the webcam device. Realtek developed the hardware and drivers for it. If not, it could be malware or trojan acting in disguise. Mostly, it should be the former, so let’s tackle that first. We will cover malware in a separate point below to keep it simple. First, we will update the drivers. Open Device Manager by searching for it in Windows Search and under Imaging devices, right-click on Lenovo EasyCamera to update the drivers. If the issue persists, then use the same menu to select Uninstall device and reinstall the drivers using the official Lenovo download page.
3. Lenovo Solution Center
Lenovo has ended support for Lenovo Solution Center which was later replaced by Lenovo Vantage. Check your PC, and if you have the former, there is a strong possibility that the error is coming from there. I would recommend getting rid of it and download the new Lenovo Vantage instead.
4. Bluetooth Device Manager
Few users found that the error was associated with the Bluetooth device manager. If you are not using any Bluetooth devices, like a mouse, you may try and disable the related drivers. If you are using one or intend to use one, let’s try and update the drivers instead. Open Device Manager and click on Bluetooth here. Right-click on the Bluetooth device to either Update drivers or Disable device, depending on your preference. Reboot your PC after that to check if that worked.
5. Malware or Trojan
If you have been infected, as we discussed before, you will need to tread carefully. There is no ‘one solution fits all problem’ here but more of a general guideline. If you are using Windows Defender, then it is already running and scanning your computer in the background. If you are using an antivirus, open and do a full scan immediately no matter how long it takes. See if it finds anything. At this point, I would suggest you download and scan your PC using Malwarebytes. The free version is good enough. Microsoft Safety Scanner is another good app. Always download the latest version of that app instead of using a pre-installed version. They update it almost every other week. Finally, though not required, you can also scan your PC with the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool. It will scan your computer for rogue apps. 7. SFC and DISM Scan
If you are still seeing RVC is already running error, I would suggest running an SFC and DISM scan which may fix any known system files errors known to be causing issues. Open Command Prompt with admin rights by searching for it in Windows Search. Run the commands below one at a time and reboot your PC afterward to recheck.
8. Clean Boot
In case an app is functioning incorrectly, you will have to perform a clean boot. That will reboot your Windows computer with the bare essential programs only. If you no longer see the error, you will have to use the process of elimination to determine which app is the culprit. Here is a step by step guide with screenshots to understand how to perform a clean boot.
