This error essentially forces you to use the default line you choose (primary number) for voice calls or FaceTime calls on your iPhone. That means the default number or line is used for calling or messaging someone, whether the person is or not in your iPhone’s contacts. But if your iPhone can’t detect that last line (primary number), it’ll throw you this error – Last Line No Longer Available. That’ll mostly occur when you’re using the iPhone in a dual-SIM mode – regular SIM and eSIM. Tip: You can check this guide to see if you have properly activated eSIM on your iPhone. We’ve listed a few troubleshooting tips that should help fix the ‘Last Line No Longer Available’ error message on your iPhone in no time. So, let’s get right to it.

1. Restart Your iPhone

First and foremost, you can start with restarting your iPhone. This should close down any background processes or services that might be responsible for the error and fix any minor incompatibilities. If you have an iPhone X or later, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and any of the Volume buttons for the shutdown prompt to appear. On older iPhones, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until iPhone prompts you to slide across to turn off the device. Wait for your device to shut down completely, then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again to turn it on.

2. Clear Call Log

Next, try clearing the call log on your iPhone to see if that helps. Oddly enough, several users have reported success in fixing the last line error by clearing call history on iPhone. You can also give it a try. Step 1: Launch the Phone app on your iPhone. Step 2: Navigate to the Recents tab and tap on Edit at the top. Step 3: Tap on Clear in the top left corner and select Clear All Recents when prompted. Restart your iPhone and try to make a call to see if the error is resolved now.

3. Toggle Airplane Mode

If the error occurs due to a network-related issue, you can toggle the Airplane mode on your iPhone to fix that. Doing so will force your iPhone to re-establish the connection with the network and might end up fixing the issue. Swipe down from the top right corner to bring up the control center. Tap on the Airplane icon to turn it on. Wait for a minute or two, and then turn it off.

4. Remove and Reinsert SIM

If the problem persists, you can try removing the physical SIM from your iPhone and inserting it again. Turn off your iPhone first and then use the SIM-ejector tool to pull out the SIM tray. Once removed, clean your SIM with a microfiber cloth and insert it. Power on your iPhone and try placing a call again.

5. Update Carrier Settings

Network carriers also update their settings from time to time. Ideally, these updates are automatically installed in the background. But if for some reason, the update didn’t go through, then you can install those pending updates manually by following the steps below. Step 1: Launch the Settings app on your iPhone. Navigate to General and then tap on About. Step 2: If there’re any pending updates, you’ll see a pop-up. Tap on Update to proceed. Once updated, see if the error is resolved now.

6. Reset Network Settings

If updating carrier settings doesn’t do any good, you can try resetting network settings on your iPhone. This will reinstate all the network settings to their default values and fix any network-related issues. Here’s how to do it. Step 1: Open up Settings on your iPhone and navigate to General. Scroll down to tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone. Step 2: Tap on the Reset option at the bottom and choose Reset Network Settings from the resulting menu. Enter the lock screen password to verify your identity. Once done, tap on the Reset Network Settings confirmation box to begin the restoration process.

7. Update Your iPhone

Lastly, you can check for any pending software updates on your iPhone. If a bug causes the Last line error in the iOS, updating your iPhone to the latest version should help. Read on to learn how. Step 1: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to General. Step 2: Next, tap on Software Update and check for newer updates. Download and install any pending updates on your iPhone. Most likely, it’s a temporary glitch where your iPhone can’t identify your SIM card. So you may take it out and clean it properly using some ISO Propyl alcohol and a microfiber cloth. Make sure there’s no dirt or residue on the SIM card.
